about

This is the second release from the forthcoming PHOENIX ROAD LP. It can be downloaded here or ordered with Neon Sign as a double A-side CD single. If you want to own a hard copy Email phoenixroadmail.com for ordering instructions. THANKS!

Years ago, late at night I was driving somewhere and a really sweet Clarence Carter song came on the radio - it was much later than Patches (80s I think). Anyway I remembered it and really liked the story telling and the lyric... it was called I Was In THE Neighbourhood. Years later I slightly borrowed the idea and came up with a song called I Was in YOUR Neighbourhood and in place of the Clarence's soft southern soul there is full on Phoenix Road style power pop! Well now I've confessed and my conscience is clear let's crank it right up and enjoy I WAS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD - the second PHOENIX ROAD release.

lyrics

(I WAS IN YOUR) NEIGHBOURHOOD

I slipped past my turning, and I do not know why
But I just kept drivin’, as the day slipped to night
Well soon I’d lost my way, but I did not mind
Alone with my thoughts, just floating through time

The night was so warm, and the traffic was slight
It was strange at each junction, I seemed to catch a green light
Well I’d never been ‘round that way, then suddenly I saw the place
Where we sat for hours just talking that day

I was in your neighbourhood
How I got there I dunno, by some magic I was on your road
I’d like to’ve seen you if I could, if only to say goodbye for good

Well I know that I hurt you, but those tears that you cried
Left a deep scar in me, as they ran from your eyes
I know I’ll never be the same and I know that cut won’t heal
But I’ll never forget, how you made me feel

I was in your neighbourhood
Standing there your door, I couldn’t knock but - I couldn’t go
I’d like to’ve seen you if I could, if only to say goodbye for good

The words we left unsaid, will echo inside my head
And you’ll always be there, when I close my eyes

I read a book, watch tv
I see a film to, distract me
